Indonesian-Malaysian Immigration to discuss border arrangements

Batam (ANTARA News) - The General Directorate of Immigration at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of Indonesia along with the Immigration Directorate of Malaysia will discuss border traffic issues between the two countries for their own security.

It was agreed in a bilateral meeting of the two countries' immigration in Batam, Riau Islands, on Thursday.

"The proposed border issues will be discussed further on border areas such as Sarawak in Malaysia or Pontianak in Indonesia," the host of bilateral talks, the head of the Batam Immigration Office, Lucky Agung Binarto, told a press briefing.

In a follow-up meeting that has not yet been announced, the immigration authorities of both countries will draft an agreement on the setting of entry and exit at the cross-border post between Indonesia and Malaysia.

Immigration General Director of both countries also agreed to conduct joint training, especially to improve human resource capacity.

These activities may include exchanges of immigration officials or joint training by maximizing the expertise of officials from both immigration agencies.

In addition, the two also agreed to discuss the agreement as the basis for the cooperation of two immigration agencies.

The scope of the cooperation agreement includes exchanging information, capacity building and joint problem solving.

The Immigration Directorate General of Indonesia and Malaysia held a bilateral meeting titled First Indonesia-Malaysia Immigration Consultation.

The meeting was a follow-up visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Kuching Malaysia in 2017.

The meeting opened by the Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia is also the implementation of cooperation between the two countries in handling immigration issues.
