JAKARTA – The Directorate General of Immigration issues sports visas and music and arts visas for foreigners performing sports activities, concerts, and art exhibitions. The Sports, music and art visa applications are submitted online via the evisa.imigrasi.go.id page. It was said by the Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim in Jakarta on Thursday (14/09/2023).
"We are taking this momentum. Soon, many international events will be held. In October, we have MotoGP; in November, we have the Coldplay Concert and the U-17 World Cup. We are simplifying the visa requirements for sports, music and arts visas so that Indonesia will be a destination country for international sporting events and music concerts," said Silmy.
Silmy said the Directorate General of Immigration was simplifying visa application requirements for international athletes and artists. In the future, official athlete teams, event organizers or international artist promoters will no longer need to submit labour permits, Police Record Certificates (SKCK) or certificates of at least five years of work experience.
The program, Silmy explained, was based on the consideration that foreign athletes and artists only have activities in Indonesia for a short time. Moreover, the job carried out by foreign athletes and artists has little competitive effect on local workers.
"Is it necessary for Cristiano Ronaldo to play an exhibition football match in Indonesia still require an SKCK (Police Record Certificate)? Does it make sense that we will require at least five years of work experience if Coldplay wants to show a concert in Jakarta? "We dragged the irrelevant requirements," said Silmy.
Silmy is optimistic that by simplifying these requirements, Indonesia can hold more sporting events or music performances on an international scale. Reflecting on the success of the 2018 ASIAN Games event, Silmy hopes that Indonesia will become a magnet for foreign tourists to watch international sports matches and music concerts in Indonesia.
"What has happened so far is that Indonesian citizens have flocked to concert venues in Singapore, Thailand, Australia and even Japan, so we are simplifying the requirements to motivate event organizers to hold concerts in Indonesia. Many foreigners will come to Indonesia to watch concerts, which can bring in cash on hand. From the Indonesian side, there is no need to fly overseas to watch concerts or sporting events," said Silmy.
In the previous regulations, the application of visa requirements was more complex for foreign athletes and artists. After evaluation, some visa requirements may be eliminated.
